Connecting Community Engagement and Internationalisation: An Overview of Challenges and Opportunities

This report explores the role of internationalisation of higher education in boosting civic engagement and connection with local communities during a mobility exchange. It provides a complete overview of EU policies and initiatives at the crossroads between internationalisation in higher education and youth engagement, as well as a literature review exploring the community actors’ perspective on community-learning programmes for international students. The publication further examines the conclusions drawn from the Learning through Engagement Lab, organised in October 2023 by the ECEM Consortium in Berlin. It reiterates the potential of stronger collaborations between students, universities and community partners, and delves into transformative and innovative approaches to societal challenges.
