CalWildFire
Description
Wildfires pose a constant threat to ecosystems and human safety, especially in Mediterranean regions, where increasing temperatures and prolonged droughts intensify conditions for ignition and spread. Accurate risk assessment and forecasting depend on datasets that seamlessly integrate meteorological, environmental, and human-related factors with high spatial and temporal resolution.
The CalWildFire dataset addresses this need by offering a comprehensive collection of wildfire and meteorological data for the Calabria region in southern Italy, compiled from in situ ground-based observations managed by the regional environmental agency. CalWildFire provides 11 years (2008–2018) of daily, validated in situ meteorological measurements and ground-based burned-area records.
The repository contains the compressed version of the CalWildFire dataset. It features four primary directories: burned, never_burned, burned_negatives, and burned_one_day_before. It also includes two JSON files with the computed statistics, with and without the samples from the set burned_one_day_before.
