Improving Lesson Planning for Teachers with ADHD: A Study of Artificial Intelligence's Influence on Time Management and Inclusivity

Description

Educators with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), who are simultaneously balancing

caregiving responsibilities, frequently encounter challenges with time management, planning and

staying organized. This qualitative self-study considers how the incorporation of artificial intelligence

applications like Magic School AI into lesson planning, can be support and alleviate these burdens to

create an effective and inclusive classroom environment for both students and teachers. This research

is outlined by the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) model and Universal

Design for Learning (UDL) principles and shaped with the researcher’s personal experience. Magic

School AI is an application that acts as an education assistant, prompt inputs for instruction are used

to create assessments, classroom resources directly aligned to the curriculum standards and

differentiated lesson plans. Findings are suggested from data collected from a peer interview, several

classroom observations across year groups and reflective journaling over a 10-week period. The

results suggest that Magic School AI, reduces administrative burdens, enhances time management,

and supports inclusive pedagogies. However, several ethical limitations were observed, the risk of

overreliance on artificial intelligence as well as the generation of content that may be illegitimate,

irrelevant, misaligned and culturally insensitive. Additionally, the researcher contributed to the

implementing and development of a school-wide AI policy. The researcher took part in the Middle

States Responsible AI Leaders (RAIL) endorsement, relating understandings from the study in

practice. These findings highlight the need for further study into how AI tools can effectively support

neurodiverse educators within the inclusive educational system. This study highlights the potential and

risks of integrating AI applications to support neurodiverse educators, pointing out the importance of

considerate implementation and ongoing research in inclusive educational practices.
