X-Fire 2025 – 1st International Workshop on Extreme Wildfire Events: Book of Abstracts

The X-Fire 2025 – 1st International Workshop on Extreme Wildfire Events was held in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 23 to 25 September 2025, hosted by the European University of Cyprus and organized under the COST Action NERO (CA22164 – european Network on Extreme fiRe behaviOr).

X-Fire was conceived as a new series of workshops designed to bridge science and practice, foster interdisciplinary exchange, and strengthen Europe’s collective capacity to understand and manage extreme wildfires. The first edition brought together researchers and operational experts from across Europe and beyond to discuss advances in fire modeling, observations, forecasting, and management.

This Book of Abstracts compiles the extended abstracts presented during the workshop, reflecting the diversity of approaches and the shared commitment of the NERO network to move from understanding to preparedness.
