IPBES Monitoring assessment, Chapter 2. DMR 3. Review of Data Needs for MEAs
Authors/Creators
Description
This Data Management Report pertains to chapter 2 of the IPBES Monitoring Assessment. This chapter sets out the underlying needs (data, models) of the monitoring workflow to derive indicators for local, national and international policy, especially focusing on the needs of the K-M Global Biodiversity Monitoring Framework.
In section 2.6, we discuss the needs of different MEAs and their alignment with the GBF. This DMR outlines our process of extracting those needs and determining this alignment.
Because the strength of the alignment was highly variable, we categorized the alignment into 3 levels:
- shared indicators – when there was a perfect match between the indicator of an MEA and an indicator of GBF
- related indicators – when there is a close relationship between the indicator of an MEA and an indicator of GBF e.g., when an MEA used a disaggregated form of a GBF indicator
- shared data types – when indicators were different but there was a common data need to derive them e.g.; two different indicators were both based on abundance data.
