ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES OF THE POLYSACCHARIDE FRACTION ISOLATED FROM CAPPARIS SPINOSA L. IN A SEROTONIN-INDUCED MODEL OF ASEPTIC ARTHRITIS

Description

Abstract

This article investigates the anti-inflammatory properties of polysaccharides derived from unripe fruits of Capparis spinosа L. in a model of serotonin-induced aseptic arthritis. The study was conducted on white male rats weighing 200–220 g. The experimental animals were divided into the following groups: control, reference (Dicloberl-Retard 8.0-10.0 mg/kg), and experimental (polysaccharide complex from unripe fruits of Capparis spinosa at doses of 25.0, 50.0, 100.0, 150.0, and 200.0 mg/kg). The preparations were administered orally 60 minutes before the serotonin injection.

According to the obtained experimental results, while inflammation increased by 28.7-42.5% in control animals injected with serotonin, Dicloberl-Retard reduced the severity of inflammation by 59.0-65.5%. Administration of polysaccharides from unripe fruits of Capparis spinosa L. at doses of 25.0, 50.0, 100.0, 150.0, and 200.0 mg/kg demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity, with the highest efficacy observed in the range of 100.0-150.0 mg/kg (58.8–69.6%).

The results indicate that the polysaccharide complex from unripe fruits of Capparis spinosa L. significantly suppresses both the exudative and proliferative stages of the inflammatory process. This natural substance provides a scientific basis for its potential future use in the development of low-toxicity, promising herbal anti-inflammatory drugs.
