The effect of low-temperature plasma on microorganisms in water and wastewater

This study investigates the antimicrobial efficiency of low-temperature atmospheric plasma for the inactivation of microorganisms in water and wastewater. The results demonstrate rapid elimination of Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp., and fungi, with full inactivation achieved within seconds to minutes depending on the matrix complexity. Cold plasma shows strong potential as a sustainable, non-chemical disinfection method for modern water treatment applications.
