Orthophoto and GRVI raster data from W22 island (Szczecin Lagoon, Poland)

Description

This dataset contains georeferenced orthophoto and vegetation index (GRVI) raster images of island W22, located in the Szczecin Lagoon, Poland.

The orthophoto represents a true-colour RGB composite comparable to a satellite basemap and depicts the spatial structure of habitats and vegetation cover on 2 June 2025. The second raster presents the Green–Red Vegetation Index (GRVI), calculated from the green (G) and red (R) spectral bands of the RGB imagery.

GRVI is a simple vegetation index used to detect and quantify vegetated surfaces by exploiting differences in reflectance between green and red wavelengths. Higher GRVI values indicate denser or more vigorous vegetation, allowing discrimination between open bare substrates, sparsely vegetated areas, and zones dominated by grasses, reedbeds, or willow shrubs.

These data enable the assessment of vegetation succession dynamics on the artificial island and support analyses of habitat availability and change relevant to ground-nesting waterbird species.

Both raster files are provided in GeoTIFF format with embedded spatial reference information (ETRS89 / Poland CS92, EPSG:2180).

Supplementary GIS layers, spatial datasets, and project documentation related to breeding-bird distribution and habitat mapping on island W22 are openly available in a dedicated GitHub repository:
