Santos é frequentemente citada em rankings de “melhores cidades para se viver”, mas a que realidades esses apontamentos se aplicam de fato? Este relato apresenta aprendizados e reflexões da autora ao experienciar, como observadora, o Projeto Beco Limpo: uma iniciativa socioambiental realizada com comunidades de palafitas em Santos-SP. A proposta do projeto envolvia ações voltadas à redução do descarte irregular e à busca por soluções alternativas frente à ausência de coleta regular de resíduos, por meio da educação socioambiental e da capacitação remunerada de jovens moradores das comunidades atendidas. A partir do acompanhamento das formações e das atividades práticas, o texto propõe uma leitura a partir da perspectiva de uma também moradora da cidade e ambientalista por formação e propósito, sobre a potência pedagógica e transformadora do projeto. Os questionamentos vão além, voltando-se para reflexões quanto à justiça climática e ao contraste dos impactos sociais, ambientais e econômicos enfrentados em um território marginalizado e invisibilizado em uma das cidades mais “sustentáveis” do Brasil.
Abstract
Santos is frequently cited in rankings of the “best cities to live in Brazil,” but to which realities do these claims truly apply? This narrative presents insights and reflections from the author’s experience as an observer of the Beco Limpo Project: a socioenvironmental initiative carried out in stilt house communities in Santos-SP. The project focused on reducing irregular waste disposal and seeking alternative solutions in response to the lack of regular waste collection, through socioenvironmental education and the paid training of young residents from the participating communities. Based on the author’s experience following the training sessions and practical activities, the text offers a perspective from someone who is both a resident of the city and an environmentalist by training and purpose, highlighting the pedagogical and transformative potential of the project. The reflections also extend to questions of climate justice and the contrast between the social, environmental, and economic impacts faced by marginalized and invisible territories in one of Brazil’s most “sustainable” cities.
