Description
The IGSN–DataCite Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Community of Practice (‘Archaeology CoP’) has been meeting monthly since March 2022. Among the primary aims of the Archaeology CoP has been to develop a description for archaeological and cultural heritage samples in terms of a standardized metadata profile, taking in account disciplinary-specific use cases and workflows. The CoP has published Version 1.0 of the Archaeological Sample Metadata Profile alongside this Recommendation.
This current Recommendation builds on the Archaeological Sample Metadata Profile, with the goal for the Archaeology CoP to reach consensus on a crosswalk to support the translation of the Metadata Profile into the DataCite Schema V4.6 for the purposes of registering IGSN IDs for archaeological samples. All members of the Archaeology CoP agreed on the Recommendation described in this document.
