Description
This dataset includes the metadata codebook and the full questionnaire used in the online survey conducted as part of the SHIFT2HEALTH EU project (grant number 101080788). The project aims to improve understanding of biopsychosocial mechanisms contributing to increased obesity risk among night shift workers. More information is available at https://shift2health.eu.
The survey was conducted between May 2024 and January 2025 across eight European countries: Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain. A total of 8,102 participants aged 21 and older, working at least 28 hours per week, completed the survey. The sample includes non-shift workers, former shift workers, and current night shift workers from both health-related and other sectors. The mean age of participants was 40.6 years (SD = 10.7), with 50.4% identifying as female.
The questionnaire covers topics such as:
- Work schedules and shift history
- Dietary habits
- Physical activity
- Sleep behavior
- General health and well-being
It was available in eight languages (Danish, Dutch, English, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Spanish) and includes both validated and non-validated items. Where validated versions were unavailable in a given language, forward-backward translation and pre-testing were conducted in accordance with WHO guidelines (2018).
