DEVELOPING LISTENING SKILLS THROUGH COMMUNICATIVE ENGLISH LESSONS IN ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM

This article explores the significance of listening as a key component in communicative language teaching for elementary school students. Listening serves as the foundation for oral communication and is closely interconnected with speaking, reading, and writing. The study identifies three essential components of effective listening instruction—linguistic, psychological, and methodological—and emphasizes their integration within communicative-focused English lessons. The paper highlights the need for developing learners’ non-translation comprehension and fostering conditions that simulate authentic speech situations in the classroom. By analyzing the interdependence between listening and other speech activities, the article underscores the importance of listening in shaping communicatively competent, culturally aware language users.
