FACTORS AFFECTING THE SUCCESS OF DENTAL IMPLANTATION: INFLAMMATION, BONE DENSITY, AND BIOMATERIALS

This article explores the key factors that influence the success of dental implants, with a particular focus on inflammation, bone density, and biomaterials. Dental implantation is considered a reliable solution for tooth loss, yet several biological and mechanical variables affect its long-term outcomes. Inflammation around the implant, often leading to peri-implantitis, significantly contributes to implant failure and is linked to poor oral hygiene, systemic diseases, and microbial activity. Similarly, bone density plays a critical role in ensuring the primary stability and proper osseointegration of implants, especially in anatomically compromised areas like the posterior maxilla. The study further evaluates the impact of different implant biomaterials, comparing titanium and zirconia, on the healing process, biocompatibility, and resistance to infection. Clinical data analysis from 60 patients, alongside literature review, revealed that low bone density and high levels of inflammatory cytokines were strong predictors of implant failure. Titanium implants showed superior performance compared to zirconia, though zirconia offered aesthetic and microbial benefits. The paper concludes that successful implantation requires a multidisciplinary approach, including thorough preoperative planning, appropriate biomaterial selection, and inflammation control to achieve long-term stability and function.
