Pan-island network for animal disease control- workshop report
Authors/Creators
Description
In February 2025, livestock production representatives (farmers, crofters, vets, and other
stakeholders) from the island groups for Orkney, Shetland, and Lewis and Harris gathered
in Inverness for a two day ‘Pan-Island Workshop’ to share their experiences around
animal disease control, with a focus on the disease sheep scab, which is caused by
infestation with the ectoparasitic sheep scab mite (Figure 2). The meeting was hosted by
the James Hutton (JHI) and Moredun Institutes (MRI) and funded by EPIC Scotland and
the Scottish Government Strategic Research Programme (SRP).
