BRANCHING AND SELECTION OPERATORS: FOUNDATIONS OF CONTROL FLOW IN PROGRAMMING
Authors/Creators
Description
Branching and selection operators are basic program constructs that involve dynamic decision flows and control flows. In this article, their definitions, implementations and roles in structuring logical workflows are discussed. Branching control structures (loops and function calls) change how a piece of code is executed, whereas selection control structures (if-else and switch-case) execute code based on conditions. This work through examples and analysis brings out their importance in the increased code readability, efficiency, and adaptability. Some best practices and common bottlenecks are also sketched to help developers to maximize their usage.
