It is represented by 12 species in 6 genera in India, three in Metasphenisca Hendel, one in Tephraciura Hering, one in Aciura Robineau-Desvoidy, four in Pristaciura Hendel, two in Sphaeniscus Becker and one in Tephrella Bezzi (Agarwal & Sueyoshi; 2005; Hancock 2010; Maneesh & Prabhakar, 2025; this paper). Species of Tephrellini are mostly associated with Acanthaceae, Lamiaceae and verbenaceae, with Barleria sp. (Acanthaceae) a major host in India.
