Misinterpretations of the Qur'an in the Modern Era: Ahl al-Sunnah Perspective on Liberal and Orientalist Approaches

This research explores the misinterpretations of the Qur’an in the modern era due to liberal, secular, and orientalist influences. It analyzes the intellectual and ideological roots of these reinterpretations and examines their effects on contemporary Islamic thought. The study highlights the authentic methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama‘ah, grounded in Tafsir bil-Ma’sur, Hadith, and early scholarly consensus (ijma‘), as the correct framework for understanding the Qur’an. It also provides recommendations for preserving the integrity of Qur’anic interpretation in modern scholarship and educational contexts.
