Description

Holcocranum saturejae (Kolenati, 1845), a species from the family Artheneidae, is widely distributed across the Palaearctic region and has also been introduced to North America, South America, and tropical Africa. Until now, it had not been officially recorded in Poland, with only one unverified observation from Warsaw. This paper presents the first confirmed records of H. saturejae in Poland, specifically from Wrocław (Pilczyce and Widawa districts) and Siechnice. The species was found in habitats dominated by cattail (Typha spp.), often near roads and water bodies. Observations included both adults and nymphs, indicating a complete developmental cycle at the Widawa site. The species can be distinguished from the only other Polish representative of Artheneidae, Chilacis typhae, by parallel head stripes (vs. converging in C. typhae) and a shorter rostrum reaching only the forelegs (vs. reaching the mesosternum in C. typhae). Given the distance between the Warsaw and Lower Silesian sites, further expansion and observations of H. saturejae in Poland are expected.
