Description

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to look into how binge-watching affects social interactions, time management, and daily routines among college students in Chennai. The study examined the binge- watching habits, preferred platforms, and perceived impacts on lifestyle and social engagement of students aged 17 and older through a quantitative survey using an online questionnaire that included both closed-ended and Likert scale questions. The results show that binge-watching is a popular pastime that is frequently used as a stress-reduction technique, but it usually leads to missed meals, decreased time with friends and family, and disturbed sleep patterns. As a sign of a slow transition to healthier routines, some students have begun substituting hobbies and other constructive activities for excessive viewing. The study comes to the conclusion that although binge-watching is a common kind of entertainment, students' social and personal wellbeing may suffer if they engage in it excessively. It highlights the necessity of regulating mobile phone use during school hours, encouraging students to participate in physical activity, hobbies, and mindfulness exercises to attain a healthier lifestyle balance, and promoting balanced media consumption through awareness campaigns in educational institutions.
