Assessing Climate and Seismic Vulnerability of the Yeni Mosque in Mytilene, Lesvos
Authors/Creators
Description
This research evaluates the multi-hazard exposure of the Yeni Mosque (Mytilene) to climate change and seismic activity, integrating historical and contextual documentation with downscaled climate projections (DEAR-Clima; RCP4.5/8.5). A Heritage Hazard Index (HHI) framework is utilised to establish qualitative hazard classifications for two forthcoming 30-year intervals (2031–2060, 2071–2100). The existing pathology, which includes the deterioration of coatings, decay of mortar, and corrosion of metallic ties, is recorded, and non-destructive testing (NDT), along with monitoring and reconstruction of the dome, are suggested as a protective strategy, followed by a subsequent risk “re-assessment” after the interventions.
