D3.1 Optimal vertiport location model

Description

This document presents the work that has been completed for WP3 of the Engage2 KTN project Decision support tool for vertiport site selection. The document comprises a literature review and the mathematical definition of the optimisation models. The literature review includes an overview of the characteristics and regulations of vertiports for Urban Air Mobility (UAM), followed by an exploration of facility location problems and relevant modeling techniques. This is followed by a chapter on the available literature regarding vertiport location optimisation. Based on this literature study, the optimization problems for last-mile deliveries and passenger transportation were different enough to require separate models.  The model for passenger vertiports is framed as a capacitated Hub Location Problem, with the objective function containing, operational profits, operational costs and establishment costs. The model for last-mile delivery vertports is framed as an standard facility location problem, with each vertiport having an area of influence within which demand can be captured.
