Abstract (English)

The quintuple helix of innovation considers both the protection and regeneration of our natural ecosystem and the quality of life of humans as the primary challenges of innovation. This research therefore seeks to understand how Industrial Systems Engineering, and in particular Innovation Engineering, is already responding to these challenges. Based on a longitudinal analysis of 15 years of a university and territorial Living Lab, we characterise the determinants of the co-design of distributed collaborative ecosystems, leading to the proposal of scientific, technical and territorial demonstrators from local to European scale. These demonstrators are also helping to test a sustainable smart city.

Based on the observation that current processes are mainly part of the quadruple helix of innovation, we are identifying the conditions for the emergence of ecosystemic engineering, i.e. multi-actor, multi-scalar, multi-level, multi-scale and multi-criteria collaborative design over a long period of time (multi-temporal) and relies on networked collaborative innovation spaces, to generate positive impacts on our environments.

The aim of this work is to support the transformation of local (and regional) players by formalizing the theoretical framework, concepts, models, methods, tools and technologies that will characterize Industrial and Urban Systems Engineering in harmony with natural ecosystems.
