Breakup dynamics of Newtonian fluids under extension [dataset]

  • 1. Lancaster Environment Centre, Lancaster University

Description

Supporting data for "Breakup dynamics of Newtonian fluids under extension" by Allgood and Jones (2026) in Royal Society Open Science.

ThinningVideoFiles.zip contains footage of all fluid extension experiments in .mp4 format, at 60 fps. The original videos were recorded at 1000 fps, but have been condensed here to reduce file sizes. The names of video files correspond to the details listed in Table A1 in the supplementary materials of the main text.

ThinningData.txt contains raw data for fluid filament mid-plane diameter, measured via brightness thresholding in every frame of the original high-speed video footage. The names of experiments correspond to the video files, and to the details listed in Table A1 in the supplementary materials of the main text. Columns display experiment name (Name), time before breakup in seconds (Time_s), mid-plane diameter in pixels (D_px) and mid-plane diameter in millimetres (D_mm).
