Description
This dataset provides high-resolution information on wind speed developed for the research article “Forecasting offshore wind energy in Atlantic Europe using CMIP6 dynamically downscaled data.” The data were obtained through a dynamical downscaling procedure based on the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, applied to future climate simulations under SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios. A multi-model ensemble derived from CMIP6 global climate projections was dynamically downscaled to generate 6-hourly wind fields along the Atlantic coast of Europe. The modelled domain has a horizontal resolution of 10 km, and the wind speed is calculated at a hub height of 100 m above mean sea level—representative of modern offshore wind turbine configurations.
Spatially, the coverage extends over the eastern North Atlantic—from southern Portugal up to northern Scotland—encompassing the Bay of Biscay and parts of the North Sea. The temporal coverage spans the period 2030–2059, provided at daily resolution.
This dataset serves as a valuable resource for research in offshore wind energy potential, climate change impact assessments, and future-oriented energy system modelling.
