Description

The International Terraced Landscapes Alliance Journal (Volume 3, Number 2, 2025) opens with a reflection on the ongoing journey of the European Days of Terraced Landscapes (EDTL) — a series of collaborative gatherings born from the 4th ITLA Congress in La Gomera (2019) and dedicated to reconnecting communities through the shared heritage of terraced environments. The introduction traces how the initiative began in Vrtovin, Slovenia, as a meeting of local residents, researchers, and artisans, and evolved into a broader European movement linking cultural heritage, ecology, education, and craftsmanship. Despite the pause caused by the pandemic, the network revived its activities in Cyprus, where terraced landscapes became the setting for participatory workshops, art projects, and environmental learning. The introduction sets the tone for this issue of the journal — celebrating terraces not merely as historical artefacts, but as living spaces of community resilience, intercultural dialogue, and creative continuity.
