Description

This repository contains all datasets supporting the article “Heat Vulnerability in a Hyper-Arid Coastal Conurbation: Downscaled LST and Socio-Spatial Analysis” (Iquique–Alto Hospicio, Chile).
The data provide the geospatial and statistical foundations for the Heat Vulnerability Index (HVI) and its principal-component analysis, integrating remote sensing, census, and environmental indicators.

Contents (7 files):

  1. LCZ.zip – Local Climate Zones (LCZ) shapefile for the Iquique–Alto Hospicio conurbation, classified according to the Stewart and Oke (2012) framework.

  2. NODATA.zip – Shapefile of urban census blocks lacking socioeconomic information in the 2017 Chilean Census.

  3. Standardized_HVI_Indicators_Iquique_Hospicio.xlsx – CCensus-block dataset including the 12 standardized and directionally adjusted indicators used to construct the Heat Vulnerability Index (HVI).
Each record corresponds to an urban census block (manzana censal). The dataset can be spatially joined with the shapefile HVI_PCA.zip, which contains the four principal components and the composite HVI (numeric and categorical), using the common identifier field MANZENT.

  4. LST_MODIS.zip – Seasonal (DJF, MAM, JJA, SON) daytime and nighttime Land Surface Temperature (LST) composites (2002–2023) from MODIS Terra and Aqua for Iquique and Alto Hospicio.

  5. LST_10m_RLS_NIGHT.zip – Downscaled nighttime summer LST (2019–2023) at 10 m spatial resolution derived through robust least-squares regression (MODIS–Sentinel-2 fusion).

  6. ClusterOutliers800m.zip – Shapefile of Local Moran’s I cluster–outlier results (800 m spatial lag), identifying statistically significant HVI hotspots and coldspots (p < 0.05).

  7. HVI_PCA.zip – Shapefile containing the four Varimax-rotated principal components, the continuous HVI scores, and the categorized (Very Low–Very High) HVI classes.

All layers are projected in WGS 84 / UTM Zone 19S, and all datasets are provided under a CC-BY 4.0 license to enable reuse and replication.
