Examining the Technological Skills among Junior High School Students Using the Path Analysis Approach

This study aimed to assess the impact of goal orientation and how-to videos on the technological skills of Grade 10 students in Sulop District, Davao del Sur, employing a non-experimental quantitative design with a descriptive-correlational technique through path analysis. The researcher selected 232 students using a simple random sampling method and utilized an adapted survey questionnaire, which was pilot tested for reliability and internal consistency. The findings revealed that the goal orientation among students is moderately extensive, with performance approach and avoidance orientations more prevalent than mastery and work-avoidant orientations. Technological skills were also found to be moderately extensive, with particular strength in software tools and digital communication, whereas skills in internet navigation and problem-solving were less evident. The study also found moderate usage of how-to videos, with peer recommendations being a prominent mode of engagement. Additionally, a strong goal orientation correlated with enhanced technological skills and frequent engagement with how-to videos. These relationships underscore the importance of motivational factors in shaping digital competence and the utilization of instructional videos. The study's model demonstrated excellent fit, affirming the significant interrelationships among the variables.
