Protocol: Evidence map of screening for cardiac conditions associated with sudden cardiac death in the young

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is the sudden and unexpected death of a person caused by a problem with their heart, often due to genetic conditions. Sudden cardiac death can occur in the general population as well as in young athletes. This evidence map, commissioned by the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC), aims to summarise the volume and type of evidence about sudden cardiac death in individuals aged 12 to 39 years, relating to: 1) incidence of sudden cardiac death; 2) accuracy of screening tests to identify cardiac conditions associated with sudden cardiac death; and 3) effectiveness of interventions to prevent sudden cardiac death in individuals with a screen-detected cardiac abnormality compared to non-screened individuals.
