Description

Este libro propone al lector una nueva mirada a la historia de España desde la caricatura política, su iconografía y sus símbolos. Con el fin de visualizar nuestra historia contemporánea, junto al uso de diversas fuentes escritas, ofrece más de 300 imágenes originales, muchas de ellas inéditas o de muy difícil acceso al lector. Esta rica cultura visual, testimonio vivo del reinado de Isabel II, la revolución de 1868 o la I República (1873), se difundió por numerosas vías, desde las publicaciones periódicas, aleluyas, fotomontajes, naipes… hasta las etiquetas de cajas de cerillas que se popularizaron entonces. El discurso dibujado en todos esos soportes, y sus autores materiales, los caricaturistas, los periodistas, los editores, impresores, litógrafos, etc. nos aportan muchas claves para conocer mejor cómo se fueron conformando y modificando los imaginarios sociales de la España contemporánea. Adicionalmente, el lector encontrará en esta obra numerosos códigos QR que le permitirán contemplar con todo detalle muchas de las imágenes, cuyos originales se publica - ron en formatos de gran tamaño, así como obtenerlas en alta resolución en el portal web de la editorial de la Universidad de Cantabria.

Abstract (English)

This book provides to the readers with a new look into the Spanish History through political cartoons, its iconography and its symbols. To get that renewed view of our history, the book is based in a wide variety of writing sources and, additionally, it displays over 300 pictures, many of them unpublished or difficult to access. These are part of a really reach visual culture and, at the same time, a living testimony to the history of the reign of Isabel II, the revolution of 1868 and the First Republic (1873). The political cartoons were disseminated through different means, from periodicals, “hallelujahs”, photomontages, cards…up to matchbox labels that became very popular at that time. To have a better idea of how the social imaginaries are built and spread in Contemporary Spain, the speech drawn in all that visual sources, their authors, the cartoonist, the journalist, the editors, the printers, the lithographers, etc. are key elements. Furthermore, the reader will find in this book a large number of QR Codes that allows to see many of the pictures, originally published in a big size, in great detail. The pictures can also be downloaded in high resolution at the University of Cantabria press website.
