Description
Abstract:
The green economy is an economic model that promotes sustainable development by integrating economic growth with environmental protection and social inclusion. In India, it's particularly important because it can help address major issues like climate change, resource depletion, and pollution while simultaneously creating new jobs and fostering economic growth. This approach shifts the focus from a traditional, resource-intensive economy to one that is low-carbon, resource-efficient, and socially equitable. As per UNEP, a green economy is defined as an economy that is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive. The new development paradigm offers a transformative vision and practical pathway for genuinely holistic, sustainabal and inclusive social progress. This paper delves into the scope and nature of this transformative concept, exploring its principles, key sectors, and the challenges and opportunities in its implementation in India. It argues that a successful transition to a green economy requires a fundamental reevaluation of economic valuation, policy frameworks, and investment strategies to align economic prosperity with ecological sustainability and social equity.
