Description
Abstract (English)
Dynamic systems far from equilibrium exhibit complex behaviours characterised by non-linearity and instabilities that can lead to sudden changes in state. The article presents three key concepts that shed light on these behaviours: hysteresis, bifurcations and catastrophes. Examples of applications in physics, ecology and social sciences demonstrate the robustness of these concepts, the articulations between them and the transpositions they enable between different disciplines.
