The Applied IMV-model of Suicidal Behaviour for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (IMV-PMDD)

Description

Scroll down to acccess and download report.

CONTEXT: PMDD affects around 3-8% of women and individuals assigned female at birth (AFAB). Around 1 in 3 people with PMDD will attempt suicide at least once. In the UK PMDD Research Agenda, addressing suicide and self-harm was identified as a priority. Our applied model is based on the original Integrated Motivational-Volitional model of suicidal behaviour by O'Connor and Kirtley (2018), and identifies factors and mechanisms that need to be considered when supporting people with PMDD. The model is presented on page 8 of our report below. A full peer-reviewed paper will be published separately, presenting the findings in more detail.

HOW TO USE THE MODEL: The model aims to support health professionals and researchers in their understanding of menstrual-related menstrual distress. Purple boxes, and arrows, indicate the original IMV model. Teal coloured boxes indicate the addition of PMDD-specific factors. Considering these factors will help inform appropriate interventions.
