Ethnographic Elements in the Novel 'Sengeni'

Description

In the context of Tamil literature, studies that integrate knowledge from other disciplines have been increasing in recent times. Among these, research related to Ethnography, a subfield of Anthropology, holds significant importance. Specifically, studies conducted on fictional literature created by writers, known as “Literary anthropology” or “Literary ethnography”, help to highlight the gap between the literary work and society. The novel Sengeni (2021) by P. Amirthavalli, which is centered around  the Neithal (Coastal) landscape, describes the life of a particular ethnic community.  By identifying the ethnographic elements present in this novel, it is possible to reveal the unique characteristics found in the lives of these people. Therefore, this paper has been written based on this objective
