Open Science Capacity Building in times of AI: Finding Solutions with the GATE

Description

The Open Science Learning GATE (GATE) conducted a solution session at the Open Science Conference 2025.

The aim of the solution oriented workshop was to

  • familiarise participants with the GATE initiative, which collects and consolidates knowledge on current guiding thoughts and practices in Open Science (via the GATE Service). By continuously capturing, analysing, and redistributing this knowledge, GATE facilitates an ongoing exchange within the community and supports an effective Open Science capacity building as well as shared understanding of how Open Science evolves (also at the intersection with AI).
  • engage participants into co-creative activities in order to collaboratively develop targeted solutions advancing Open Science practices within their communities – particularly where they intersect with AI – using data gathered through the GATE Service. Thus participants gain practical insights into Open Science and AI practices and co-create sustainable training strategies/Open Science actions for their communities and institutions.

Ahead of the conference, participants were invited to share OS insights via the GATE Service (a questionnaire).

The outcomes of the solution session (solutions or activities advancing Open Science) feed into the open-access GATE Report 2025, a community-based output of the GATE initiative continuously informing the research ecosystem on Open Science. The session promotes FAIR, evidence-based OS education and supports a transparent, collaborative research culture.
