Seaglider data collected during the FOCUS field campaign in the Southern Ocean, December 2023 - January 2024
Authors/Creators
Description
Hydrographic and bio-optical measurements collected from Seagliders SG659 and SG681 in the Southern Ocean from December 2023 to January 2024. These glider deployments were a component of the FOCUS (Finescale Observations in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current Under SWOT) field campaign, a contribution to the SWOT regional calibration and validation activities.
This dataset contains water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll fluorescence, and optical backscatter. The glider deployment took place south of Tasmania, in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. Data was collected from regions both south and north of the Polar Front. The gliders had similar sensor suites, including an unpumped Seabird CTD, an Aanderaa oxygen optode, and a WETLabs ECO puck, which allowed for the measurement of two wavelengths of optical backscatter as well as induced fluorescence. The data provided here collects the log files and .nc files (data) from each glider dive; please contact the data creators (via Andrew Thompson, andrewt@caltech.edu) if you are interested in a gridded data product. Data are in NetCDF format.
