Description

This repository contains the quantification of the Pan-European model results for the European Energy Vision 2060 (EU EnVis-2060) scenarios, which have been created by the European research projects Man0EUvRE (funded by the CETPartnership) and iDesignRES (funded by the European Commission).

The quantification has been performed using the Global Energy System Model (GENeSYS-MOD) Version 4.0 (available on GitHub at https://github.com/GENeSYS-MOD).

The results are available in multiple formats:

  • A result file in the IAMC format (see https://pyam-iamc.readthedocs.io/en/stable/data.html). This data is aggregated / converted from the native GENeSYS-MOD outputs to the IAMC nomenclature (see https://github.com/IAMconsortium/common-definitions), so some processing is involved and accuracy might depend on the specific variable.
  • A .zip archive containing the native GENeSYS-MOD outputs in .csv format, consisting of multiple files:
    • output_additional_statistics.csv: this file contains some additional statistics such as the self sufficiency rate of each region, the electrification rate per sector, or the electricity share of final energy.
    • output_energy_balance.csv: this file contains all energy generation and consumption numbers, for each technology, for each timeslice for a full representation of the results.
    • output_annual_energy_balance.csv: this file contains the generation and use of each technology, but aggregated on an annual level. This should make the comparison and navigation of results easier for you.
    • output_capacity.csv: this file contains all the capacity information from the GENeSYS-MOD runs, such as total and new capacity installations.
    • output_emissions.csv: this file contains all emission per technology for each pathway.
    • output_endogenous_fuelcosts.csv: this file contains the endogenous fuel costs for all fuels (e.g. hydrogen or syn-gas). Use with caution, as these are reverse-calculated valued and not direct outputs of the model. They are used in part for the levelized technology costs.
    • output_energy_demand_statistics.csv: this file has been created on request some time ago and gives some statistics on energy demands. It shows final and primary energy demands (both total and relative), as well as the relative electricity mix and a share of imports of primary energy for each fuel.
    • output_storagelevel.csv: as the name suggests, this file outputs all storage levels of the energy storage technologies for all storages and regions per time slice.
    • output_technology_costs_detailed.csv: this file contains some more detailed cost data for electricity generation technologies (you could get most of this from the input data sheets, but this sums it up in a coherent fashion). It encompasses all cost data, including the levelized costs of electricity generation for each technology. Levelized costs are reverse-calculated though, so use with caution.
    • output_transmission_capacity.csv: this file contains the transmission capacity between nodes, as well as transmission expansion cost data.

The underlying raw data, including all sources and assumptions used for each data point can be found at the Global Energy System Model (GENeSYS-MOD) data repository (see https://github.com/GENeSYS-MOD/GENeSYS_MOD.data). Also, the scenario parametrization and description of the storylines can be found in Zenodo repository: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.13710868)

Alongside the scenario quantification, there is also included a report (currently as a draft) about the quantification of the storylines at Pan-European and some country level insights, the workflow, and some key assumptions as part of Deliverable 2.1 of the Man0EUvRE project.
