Description
“Unlike the focus and object of Regional Science, which is regional space and regional systems, the object of Regional Development Science expands beyond this, as it deals more specifically with a phenomenon that occurs on a regional scale and its ramifications, namely: the phenomenon of development. This process is observable, has tangible and intangible aspects, and occurs on a regional and territorial scale. As can be seen, it can also be measured, described, and explained by scientific theories and methods, which in turn require logic and empirical evidence (...)”
The collection of texts that make up this work, whose opening theme is Regional Development and its Science, is a modest contribution to regional studies. In particular, the texts have an economic emphasis, given the author's experience, and deal with topics ranging from regional development as the subject of a "Science of Regional Development" to issues related to the dynamics of regions, particularly regional economies. Consequently, taken as a whole, the texts present reflections on economic polarization, structural changes in regional economies, specializations, spatial forces, especially territorial ones, among others.
Certainly, the texts presented here do not exhaust the debate on the "Science of Regional Development" or on the mechanisms and elements of regional development. They are a contribution from an economic perspective, with the aim of stimulating theoretical and empirical discussions about the development process in the regions.
