Description of scurvy by Bachstrom (1734)
Description
Bachstrom seems to be the first person to propose that there is something special in fruits and vegetables so that scurvy “is solely owing to a total abstinence from fresh vegetable food, and greens; which is alone the true primary cause of the disease.” James Lind firmly disagreed with such a supposition. This is James Lind’s English summary of the text that was originally published in Latin.
