Description

This repository hosts the source data and codes required to reproduce results and figures published in Nature journal article, Land-use change undermines the stability of avian functional diversity

Repository contains community abundance matrices and functional trait datasets for 3696 bird species in 1281 avian assemblages, surveyed across 9 distinct land-use types. Survey data was originally extracted from the PREDICTS database (https://doi.org/10.5519/jg7i52dg) from 98 independent studies, distributed across 6 continents. Morphological trait data was originally extracted from AVONET (https://figshare.com/s/b990722d72a26b5bfead) and dietary data from Pigot et al., (2020) (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41559-019-1070-4). Three derived "trait-axes" have been generated through PCAs of the original morphological trait data. These trait axes independently summarise variation across body size, locomotory traits (Tail, Tarsus & Wing) and trophic traits (Beak length, Width and Depth).

Codes import survey and trait data to generate assemblage-level functional metrics using the TPD package (https://doi.org/10.1002/ecy.2876). Functional metrics are then compared along a land-use intensification gradient - README provides details / instructions for use.
