La escala de medida ordinal, aunque es una de las más utilizadas y aceptadas dentro de la investigación psicológica, presenta limitaciones importantes que conducen a cuestionar su efectividad para el tratamiento cuantitativo de la realidad. La naturaleza de los fenómenos estudiados imposibilita establecer relaciones netamente numéricas dentro de la psicología. Ante esta realidad, la investigación analiza estas restricciones, centrándose en la ausencia del punto fijo de referencia, un concepto fundamental dentro de la matemática y la física, y que ha sido trasladado al campo de la psicología y cuya falta de datos ordinales, genera controversias. La metodología empleada es de tipo descriptiva y documental, basándose en un enfoque interdisciplinar. Entre los principales hallazgos se destaca que la ausencia del punto fijo de referencia genera tensiones entre los modelos cuantitativos, pues no culminan por comprender la amplitud de la subjetividad humana. Finalmente, se propone un cambio de paradigma, que provoque la visión complementaria, donde se articule lo axiomático con marcos interpretativos, considerando lo medible y lo no medible, elementos que, en conjunción, definen la naturaleza humana, haciendo de la medición un aspecto inclusivo, ético y plural.
Abstract (English)
The ordinal measurement scale, although it is one of the most widely used and accepted in psychological research, has important limitations that lead to question its effectiveness for the quantitative treatment of reality. The nature of the phenomena studied makes it impossible to establish purely numerical relationships in psychology. In view of this reality, the research analyzes these restrictions, focusing on the absence of the fixed point of reference, a fundamental concept in mathematics and physics, which has been transferred to the field of psychology and whose lack of ordinal data generates controversy. The methodology used is descriptive and documentary, based on an interdisciplinary approach. Among the main findings, it is emphasized that the absence of a fixed point of reference generates tensions among quantitative models, since they do not succeed in understanding the breadth of human subjectivity. Finally, a paradigm shift is proposed, which provokes a complementary vision, where the axiomatic is articulated with interpretative frameworks, considering the measurable and the non-measurable, elements that, in conjunction, define human nature, making measurement an inclusive, ethical and plural aspect.
