Description
Over a century, hemispheric summer insolation has been regarded as the key driver of orbital scale climate change. However, increasing geological evidence reveals that rainfall variations in low-latitude regions, dominated by precession-scale variations, often markedly different from summer insolation trends. The reason for this discrepancy has been debated for over two decades without a consensus. Recently, scientists proposed that astronomically driven low-latitude water cycles are likely not governed by summer insolation, but by shifting perihelion.
