Description

Society enjoys a financial return on investment in higher education. In addition to widespread productivity increases, the higher earnings of educated workers generate higher tax payments at the local and nationwide levels, and consistently, productive employment reduces dependence on public-income transfer programs. Its societal benefits include, among others, (1) higher levels of education which correspond to lower levels of unemployment and poverty; thus, in addition to contributing more to tax revenues than others do, adults with higher levels of education are less likely to depend on social safety net programs, generating decreased demand on public budgets; (2) lower smoking rates among college graduates which yield more positive perceptions of personal health and lower incarceration rates than individuals who have not graduated from college; and (3) higher levels of education that are correlated with volunteer work and even blood donations (Baum et al, 2013). In the Philippines, a total of more than 1.5 million high school graduates and an approximated 500, 000 students graduate every year. Study has shown that college graduates tend to have higher earning than high school graduates (Baltar, 2018).
