Dataset Name/Title

Exposure data - Dominica, 2015, 100-Year RP

Dataset Description

Flood and landslides exposure of buildings, population, and roads

Key Methodologies

Calculating exposure to historical floods (Tropical Storm Erika from 2015) and (Hurricane Maria from 2017), as well as for future flood events with different return periods (20, 50 and 100 years). Also, for landslides based on a susceptibility map, without having information on the return period.

Temporal Domain

Erika: 2015, Maria: 2017, other maps are for the situation in 2025

Spatial Domain

Dominica, UTM WGS 84 Zone 20N

Key Variables/Indicators

Exposure

·        Exposed building for 20, 50 and 100-year return period floods

·        Exposed building per Administrative units for 20, 50, and 100-year return period floods

·        Exposed buildings to landslides

·        Exposed building per administrative unit exposed to landslides

·        Exposed people to floods during tropical Storm Erika (2015 and Hurricane Maria (2017)

·        Exposed people per Administrative unit exposed to flooding during tropical Storm Erika (2015 and Hurricane Maria (2017)

·        Exposed bridges to floods for different return periods

Data Format

The data are all in Zip format, and the zip files contain ESRI Shapefiles.

Source Data

Stakeholder Relevance

Used for determining which areas are most endangered for floods and landslides, as a basis for early warning and risk-informed planning

Limitations/Assumptions

Flood maps were made with a 5-meter pixel size. Population data was relatively coarse in comparison with the other data type.
