FLOWERS OF VICTORY
Authors/Creators
Description
The report examines flower varieties created by Soviet, Russian and Belarusian
breeders during the Great Patriotic War, in the post-war period and the present, the names of which
reflect the main milestones of the Great Patriotic War. Brief historical information is given,
explaining the «military» names of flowers. It is shown that these varieties of flowers united in our
memory the seemingly incompatible concepts of «war» and «flowers» and became a strong thread
that connected the past and the present.
The article provides information that modern breeders in the field of ornamental floriculture
continue to keep the “Green Chronicle” of the history of the Great Patriotic War, which was started
in 1942 by breeders who participated in the war.
