AN ATTEMPT AT AGRARIAN REFORMS DURING THE YEARS OF PERESTROIKA
Authors/Creators
Description
The material is devoted to the topical issue of the national history: the solution of the
agrarian question on the territory of Belarus. In our history, such attempts were made in different
historical periods: in the Middle Ages, in the New and Modern Times. Such an attempt was also
made during the perestroika years. The leadership of the Soviet Union assigned the main role in
solving the agrarian question to improving the system of state management of this branch of the
economy. The interests and aspirations of the peasants themselves remained outside the real actions
of the authorities. As a result, despite having generally highly qualified agricultural personnel, vast
areas of chernozems, considerable labour resources in rural areas, spending huge financial and
material resources in the agricultural sector, the Soviet Union had to direct the huge gold reserve of
the state for the purchase of food in foreign countries.
