PEASANT ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN WESTERN BELARUS IN 1921–1939

Description
In 1921–1939, the most affluent part of the West Belarusian peasantry tried to adapt
to capitalist conditions, using hired labour and various kinds of agricultural machinery. At the same
time, preferential bank loans were necessary for such a radical reorganization of the economy, but
the Polish government provided such assistance selectively and insufficiently, so few peasants of
Western Belarus were able to become real rural entrepreneurs.
