New technologies and digital tools for collecting and sorting bioplastics: NIR technologies
Description
First talk of the Bioplastics Recycling Cluster Talks, 9 September 2025
A new cluster talk series of peer-to-peer scientific talks launched by the three EU-funded Horizon Europe research projects ReBioCycle, MoeBIOS and Prosper running from September 2025 to February 2026 on innovation in collecting, sorting, and recycling bioplastics. Monthly talks.
This event is part of a broader knowledge-sharing initiative by three research and innovation projects funded by the Circular Bio-Based Europe Joint Undertaking, ReBioCycle, MoeBIOS, and PROSPER. These projects aim to develop practical and scalable solutions for bioplastics recycling, spanning from collection to the manufacturing of new products. In this first talk, we spotlight new technologies and digital tools that are transforming how bioplastics are identified and sorted in waste streams. You will hear insights from two leading experts in the field and MoeBIOS partners:
- Carles Musoll (PICVISA)
- Gemma Figuerola Miró (LEITAT )
Together, they will share innovations in near-infrared (NIR) sorting technologies and how AI and sensor-based systems are being adapted to improve the separation and recovery of bioplastics from mixed waste streams.
