Description
Abstract
The fine-structure constant (α ≈ 1/137) is one of physics’ most enigmatic numbers, appearing as the dimensionless measure of electromagnetic interaction strength. Despite its centrality in quantum electrodynamics (QED), no widely accepted explanation exists for why α has its specific value. Within the Energy–Consciousness Observer Framework (ECOF), α is reinterpreted as a φ-scaled coherence ratio, emergent from recursive observer–field coupling. The Δ–φ corrective formalism embeds α in the same lattice that unifies h, c, e, kB, G, revealing its value as a structural necessity rather than an unexplained coincidence.
Scope of this paper
This paper reviews the conventional definition of the fine-structure constant and proposes a Δ–φ modulation of electromagnetic coupling. It discusses atomic precision measurements, high-energy scattering, and quasar absorption spectra as possible tests of the interpretation. No fitted value of Δ or new experimental measurements are reported.
