Description

There are several Roman epigraphs in Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain) and its surroundings that document travellers and people coming from abroad. The majority are marble inscriptions, but there are some examples that stand out because of the combination of these titles with images carved in sculptural reliefs. This study deals with eleven pieces of this kind, all of them were made with materials extracted from local quarries and performed a burial function.

Their timeline is stablished between the end of the first century and the third century AD, and their analysis from the point of view of the iconography, the stone material and the epigraphy reveal data about the wealth and opened character of the society of this Roman territory, the dissemination of iconographical models and rituals by these immigrants and the social position they hold.
