Etyczne fundamenty integracji europejskiej: rola wartości chrześcijańskich w wizji Roberta Schumana jako podstawa pokoju, współpracy i dobrobytu materialnego

Integracja europejska, zainicjowana w okresie powojen­nym, stanowi kluczowy proces polityczny XX wieku, mający na celu stabilizację gospodarczą i zapobieganie konfliktom poprzez budowa­nie trwałych więzi między narodami. Artykuł analizuje wizję Roberta Schumana, podkreślając rolę wartości chrześcijańskich – solidarności, godności osoby ludzkiej i braterstwa – jako etycznego fundamentu materialnych elementów integracji, w tym wspólnej kontroli nad wę­glem i stalą, co doprowadziło do pokoju i ponadnarodowej współpracy. Problem badawczy stawiany przez autorów zawiera się w pytaniu: Jak wartości etyczne z tradycji chrześcijańskiej umożliwiały budowę pokoju i współpracy na bazie dóbr materialnych według Schumana? Natomiast stawiana hipoteza to: Integracja w dzisiejszej UE oderwana od etyki jest po­datna na kryzysy z powodu sekularyzacji i biuro­kracji. Metodologia obejmuje analizę źródeł pierwotnych (Deklaracja Schumana 1950, jego pisma) i wtórnych (prace historyczne, interpre­tacje kryzysów UE). Wyniki wskazują, że etyka poprzedza ekonomię, czyniąc dobra materialne narzędziem pojednania. Wnioski podkre­ślają potrzebę powrotu do wartości Schumana i odrobienia lekcji, która umożliwi trwały dobrobyt i pokojowe współistnienie. Analiza wnosi walor do politologii, historii idei i etyki politycznej, reinterpre­tując Plan Schumana jako model hierarchiczny z etyką jako funda­mentem.

Abstract (English)

European integration, initiated in the post-war period, represents a key political process of the 20th century, aimed at economic stabilization and preventing conflicts through building lasting bonds between nations. The article examines Robert Schuman's vision, emphasizing how Christian values – such as solidarity, human dignity, and fraternity – formed the ethical foundation for material elements of integration, including joint control over coal and steel resources, leading to peace and supranational cooperation. Research problem: How did ethical values from Christian tradition en­able the construction of peace and cooperation in Europe based on material goods, according to Schuman's vision? Hypothesis: Integration detached from ethical roots is susceptible to crises, as seen in the contemporary EU due to secularization and bureaucracy. Methodology relies on analy­sis of primary sources (Schuman Declaration 1950, his writings) and secondary sources (historical works, interpretations of EU crises). Results indicate that Christian ethics precedes economics, making material goods a tool for reconciliation and war prevention. Conclusions highlight the need to return to Schuman's values amid challenges like Brexit, offering lessons for sustainable prosper­ity and peaceful coexistence. This analysis contributes to political science, history of ideas, and political ethics, reinterpreting the Schuman Plan as a hierarchical model with ethics as the essential foundation.
